Lamar will be researching the iconic Haitian jeweler Pericles in Haiti. Pericles is known for his incredible craftsmanship and use of recycled metal. Lamar will be traveling to Haiti in order to interview the artist and will be gathering information on the artist, his practice, and the broader use of recycled metal in art. Upon return, Lamar hopes to use this information to write a book for his distinction in Art History at St. Olaf College.
Iris (not pictured) will be leading the community development program at the Asian Rural Institute (ARI) in Japan. She will lead a series of 10 workshops, which will culminate in an art exhibition of the works of leaders, elementary school students we visit, international volunteers, and Japanese staff. With 30 established rural leaders from Southeast Asia and Africa, she will participate in a 9-month training in servant leadership and sustainable agriculture at ARI. This project culminates in a massive community mural.
Cheers to all! We cant wait to see all the incredible things you will do.
