We at Ole Thrift Shop are trying to find more ways to give back to our community. One way we’re doing so is by creating the Ole Thrift Shop Sustainability Grant Program.
Each year, starting now, we will be awarding $3,000 in grants to students or student groups pursuing opportunities they would otherwise would not be able to afford.
The goals of this grant program are to:
Give students a boost with non-educational expenses often overlooked by other grant programs (e.g. relocation expenses for a post-grad job or internship).
Give student groups focused around environmental sustainability access to more funding (e.g. purchase of more composting bins).
Give student groups not affiliated with SGA access to grant funding otherwise unavailable to them (e.g. my stock market club can't take SGA funding because of college liability, but I really want to trade real-world currency).
Assist Ole entrepreneurs in first-stage business expenses before competing for grants like Ole Cup. (e.g. expenses relating to printing, prototyping, professional ware, etc.).
Present Oles with financial incentives to reduce waste on campus.
How do I qualify for this grant?
To qualify for this grant, you must be a student of St. Olaf College at the time you apply. Thats it.
What kinds of opportunities qualify for this grant?
The sky is your limit! We will prioritize opportunities that fall into one or more of the four categories listed above, but this is our first year running this program, so we have no idea what oles need!
How much can I ask for?
Ask for what you need, but clearly separate individual items in your budget. If we can’t help with everything, there is a chance we could help with some of your expenses.
Additionally, if you are purchasing items, be specific on what. Our goal is to help as many people as possible, and as the leaders of a thrift shop, we are some nasty bargain hunters.
Are applications confidential?
Sensitive or identifying information will be shared only with board members of Ole Thrift Shop. Ole Thrift Shop, as a 501(c)3, is autonomous from St. Olaf College.
